Heritage Wood

Rally Report. Heritage Wood Rally Ednaston April 28th – May 3rd 2022.

Thank you to the Marshals LC & MC and Deputy Marshall JB for their friendly welcome and the organising and running of the Rally.

11 units attended, pitched on grass (off grid) at the edge of the Memorial Wood and Lake. This was a rural site, and the woodland is sponsored, and people can dedicate a tree or a bench to mark a special event or in memory of a loved one. Both the Woodland and the Lake have gentle flat walks around and through them with information boards so that people can identify the birds and the trees. In abundance on the lake were geese and ducks. The geese and their goslings grazed regularly out on the field. The field of Rape Seed to the side of the caravans provided a wonderful fragrance throughout the day and evening.

During the stay there were the usual activities of Bingo, Blackout and Raffle to raise funds for our chosen charity ‘Air Ambulance’ The amount raised was over £20.00

The highlight was the Murder Mystery at the Pizzeria on Saturday evening. Crack the case and bring your own pizza, garlic bread and wine. Great fun and laughs with MC and his ever-changing accent.

The prizes won were:

Best Character Improvisation – JB (for his singing talents).

Best Character Detective – JW (for working out who the murderer was).

Best Character Actor – BT (for staying in character throughout).

The two nearby villages provided excellent pubs with food. The Red Lion at Hollington, Ashbourne with a great Pie themed Menu and wonderful views, was a delight both on the palate and the eyes. The Yew Tree Inn at Ednaston, again with a wonderful menu and the most amazing Sunday Roast we would highly recommend to everyone. Both dog friendly pubs have great service, great staff, amazing menus in traditional pub surroundings, and within easy walking distance of our site.

The ‘Who am I Quiz’ was challenging. The clues were placed in the windows of the caravans and once all of them read and noted down each team had to work out who it was? Google was probably used by most to link the clues together to work it out. (Yes, we admit it. G and I used Google as we had lots of clues, but no clue!). L & JB won with the only entry made.

Moira Furnace, Easter

Easter Rally 2022. Arrived on Thursday in brilliant sunshine which stayed with us all weekend. Obviously ordered by the Marshalls. Thursday night free and easy meeting with friends and catching up. Friday in the party tent for a get together. Saturday American supper and raffle followed by bingo. The American supper would not have been out of place at an up-market function. It was amazing. Tea and coffee was on tap all weekend which was lovely, hot cross buns were had. Thanks to the people who kept the boiler topped up. Easter Sunday bacon baps were done for everyone and later saw a well organised egg hunt for the children and an adult and children’s Easter bonnet parade. Some amazing creations. Sunday night saw us in the party tent again just chilling and chatting. An excellent rally, friendly and welcoming as is to be expected on a 4Cs rally. Carsington, Uppertown Farm

Thanks to the marshals S & J with B & G, for a great weekend at Carsington, arrived in glorious sunshine and greeted with tea and cake, we got all sorted and gave help putting the shelters up and getting the urn on for later, but turned very chilly so all stayed indoors. Friday was free and easy with a visit by the local mobile chippy, very nice they were too. Saturday saw quite a few do the circular walk around the reservoir, with a few coming back a bit slower than they had started, all gathered in the community tent for the evening with a backwards raffle creating a few laughs, bingo was called by SP and with a few retiring, music was played while having a natter. Sunday came with drizzle, flag was held at 11.00, raffle was drawn, and winner of the competition announced, lucky me. Shelters down we all steadily packed up and made our ways home, brilliant weekend, thanks again especially to B & G helping out fot the first of many more hopefully. L & J

Copt Oak, Valentines

Copt Oak, Feb 10th– 13th A big thank you to S and J for marshalling the rally. It was a great rally despite the strong winds and the chilli weather. JW started the valentine feeling by giving all the ladies a Red Rose. Friday was a social evening in the hall with drinks and a few games of Bingo. Saturday evening was in the hall which had been decorated with a Valentine theme and started with a lovely three course meal with soup, roast chicken or beef followed by pudding and cheese and biscuits. Thank you SP for all your hard work. The meal was followed by the playing of the game ‘What am I’. It showed what dirty minds some players had. Everyone enjoyed the game and laughed all the way through. The flag and raffle took place as well and raised over £50.      P & H
