Marsh Farm, Shepley. yorkshire Mayday weekend April 30th - 5th May

Marsh Farm Rally Report

We arrived on Thursday to a very warm welcome from Sue and Terry. There was a little hitch at the beginning of the rally, as some other caravans had parked in the area where the electric hook-ups were situated, meaning unfortunately we were unable to use that field. However, this certainly didn’t spoil the weekend for us, and we instead moved into the adjacent field without electric.

The field was lovely and clean, with no previous cattle having been on it, and it offered fantastic views across the countryside. In the evenings we were treated to some beautiful sunsets, which made the setting even more special.

Thursday was very much a “legs down” free-and-easy day, giving everyone chance to settle in and relax.

Friday was another free-and-easy day, with quite a few members taking the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. There were some lovely woodland walks filled with beautiful bluebells, along with a pub or two nearby for refreshments along the way.

Saturday was again free and easy during the day, but in the evening we all gathered together in the social tent where Terry had organised a quiz for us. Oh my goodness — wasn’t it difficult! I don’t think we’re quite as intelligent as you yet, Terry, but we certainly had a lot of laughs trying. Huge congratulations to Chris, who was the overall winner. After the quiz we enjoyed a couple of games of bingo, which rounded the evening off nicely.

Sunday followed the same relaxed theme during the day, and once again everyone gathered in the tent during the evening. We enjoyed a few more games of bingo before Sue and Terry introduced some pub-style games including shove ha’penny and trying to land ping-pong balls into cups. There were plenty of laughs around the tent and perhaps one or two glasses of wine enjoyed along the way too!

Monday was another free-and-easy day, and in the evening many of us gathered together once more in the tent to socialise and chat about what we had all been doing over the weekend.

This was Sue and Terry’s first rally as Marshals and they both did an absolutely fantastic job. Thank you both for such a wonderful, friendly and enjoyable weekend.

We are already looking forward to coming back again next year!
